Pilgrims, Indians, and Beer
recently finished reading @mansfieldwrites book “The Search for God and Guinness” Amazed at the way God was able to use
a family in such a significant way.
In his book Mansfield accounts an interesting story that I thought would be appropriate to share on Thanksgiving. here it is…
As startling as this Indian was to the Pilgrims, it was what happened next that shocked them most of all. The man neared, paused, and then shouted “Welcome!” in clear, perfect English. And then, more astonishing still, he asked-again, flawlessly in the Pilgrims’ own tongue-if they had some beer.
Yes Beer.
Mansfield sites Mourt’s Relation and Of Plymouth Plantation as his source. Though not your traditional Thanksgiving story, I thought this was pretty interesting. Maybe one more dish to add to your “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner.
disclaimer: this blog is not intended to promote drinking rather simply recount history.
Michael Jackson sighting
here is a video i found online. with halloween a few days away i thought i would share this video of a recent michael jackson sighting from his former residence.
thanksgiving recap 09
For Liz and Benaiah this was their first taste of what thanksgiving is like in Hawaii. You gotta love a holiday completely devoted to gluttony and the worship of the food God with a side order of football.
Here is a peek into our thanksgiving…..
I cant believe my mom and dad are making me wear this shirt.
The wife showing off her rachel ray skills. Good thing she watches every day.

Reading blogs written by leaders who I respect allow me to grow my own leadership. Recently I fell behind on reading these blogs, and as I caught up I thought I would post a few links of some good stuff people are doing.
If your organization has a website you need to check out what this marketing genius has to say.
@paolopun has been doing a unreal job providing twitter updates regarding relief effort in the Philippines. Check out his prayer. I am super amazed by the leadership.
If you want to help the relief effort in Manila check out this 89 second video.
ondoy update vid
Here is a video produced by our communications team in Manila. Teams from our church in Manila have been working around the clock to “be the church”. I thank God for leadership that runs to crisis and not away from it.
Please take 89 seconds to see what has been going down.
please pray: ondoy
In recent days constant rain has resulted in massive flooding in the Philippines. Particularly in the Metro Manila area, the most populated segment of the country.
Although Liz’s family has suffered some material loss, everyone is safe and accounted for. Thank you to everyone who responded to Liz’s tweets and facebook updates in prayer.
Many people have lost everything they owned. Additionally the vast majority of people do not have insurance policies that would help them get back on their feet. People are literally starting from scratch.
Even more devastating are those who have lost family members in the currents of the floods.
Please take a moment to look at the pictures below and pray for the people of the Philippines. Here are some prayer points:
1. Peace and understanding for those who suffered severe lost
2. That Christians in the Philippines will be able to demonstrate the love of Christ in this moment of crisis.
3. Safety for relief workers.
4. For all government authorities. That they may have wisdom in response to this tragedy.

please pray……
remember 9/11
I took some time this morning to go through a few tribute videos remembering what happened on September 11, 2001. On this day mankind, especially Americans were reminded of many realities of life that we as Americans should be thankful for.
Americans enjoy many freedoms and luxuries that are not common in other parts of the world. We must remember that our country is blessed and that this blessing comes from God.
I hope that we would all pray for our nation and our leaders daily. Regardless of whether we agree or disagree with our government we still need to pray for our nation.
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2Chronicles 7:14
take a moment to remember what happened 8 years ago on september 11.
dangerous people
Culture shapes society, influential people shape culture.
I don’t think anyone will argue that MJ was influential.
Here are my questions:
-What if MJ used his influence to reach people for Jesus?
-Do influential people have a place in church, or is our church isolated from culture and the influential people who shape culture?
-Do we believe that the church can play a role in shaping culture?
-Are we willing to disciple influential people? or are we intimidated?
People who shape culture are dangerous. They can either be a danger to heaven or a danger to hell.

HB444
Hawaii state legislature is currently battling over bill HB444.
This bill in short would give homosexual couples many of the same rights as married couples. This bill would also move the state of Hawaii 1 step closer to legalizing same sex marriages.
The United States was founded on Christian values. Hawaii at one time was totally evangelized by missionaries. Today we are on the verge of saying as a society that homosexuality is ok.
I do not hate nor do i dislike homosexuals. I DO NOT believe however that God designed them to be homosexual. I DO NOT agree with some of the decisions they have made in their lives.
We must remember that our response as Christians must be one of love. As much as we may not agree with homosexuality we must remember that God loves them and we should also.
Please pray for:
-those individuals who live a homosexual lifestyle
-the politicians who have the tough job of making this decision.
-the politicians to vote NO to bill HB444
-the church to be able to respond in love through this situation
